TJ Mulligan's - Jackson

Our History

Tumper J. Mulligan was a native of County Tipparary, Ireland. His life span included the hard times of the potato famine era and the difficulties of a determined nation's political struggles. During these difficult times only an exceptional few could continue to be leaders in maintaining the cheerful perspective of life. T.J. Mulligan was one of the few.

Since the pubs were the meeting halls of Ireland, T.J. Mulligan used this setting to spread enjoyment as he wandered through the country. Being a practical man, he concluded early that the staples of life were hearty food, a frothy mug, and a cheery lass. It was this outlook, plus a warm smile, a sporting nature and a philosophical wit that made him a welcome neighbor to all - a neighbor who would add a spirit of festivity to any pub along the way. It was said that he was a subtle beacon of fun times and warm humanity for all Ireland.

Some felt that Tumper was idle, and this may have been true, for he was a strong man and it was written that "few women and fewer men possess that character to be idle."

This pub is named in that memory and may we invite all of you to take an idle moment and to lift a mug with T.J. Mulligan.
